Wyndham City is extending a financial olive branch to the local community with its freshly launched Large Grant round. Not-for-profit organisations and community groups are welcome to dip their toes in the pool of up to $40,000 to support an array of projects. With applications closing sharply at 3 pm on 6 October 2023, the clock is ticking for those wishing to get their hands on a share of the cash.

The grant round aims to target a holistic approach to community improvement, spanning the gamut from health and wellbeing to cultural events and even eco-friendly initiatives. Projects receiving this funding must be all set to commence between 1 May 2024 and 30 April 2025, offering a sizable window for planning and implementation.

For those who need to read the fine print, or for the uninitiated in the world of grants, Wyndham City has thoughtfully provided Community Grants Guidelines. These can be conveniently found on their official website under the Large Grants section, leaving no room for ambiguity.

Additionally, if you’re the sort of person who prefers a face-to-face—or at least screen-to-screen—explanation, Wyndham City has also got you covered. They’re holding a one-hour Q&A session on MS Teams at 10.30 am on Monday, 18 September. Bookings for this virtual tête-à-tête are open and can be made through Humanitix, allowing the community to direct their queries straight to the horse’s mouth.

The Grants Team is pulling out all the stops to assist would-be applicants. They can be reached via email at funding@wyndham.vic.gov.au or by ringing 1300 023 411. Language barriers aren’t a hurdle either; translating and interpreting services are available by dialling 13 14 50, ensuring the grant opportunity is accessible to the multicultural tapestry that makes up Wyndham.

While the Large Grant round is the star of the show, it’s not the only act. Wyndham is also offering a Community Strengthening Training Calendar, aimed at enriching the lives of its volunteers. One of the highlights is the “Empowered Volunteers – Rights, Conversations & Confidence Workshop”, facilitated by Volunteering Victoria. This workshop delves into the nitty-gritty of volunteering life, from understanding one’s rights to effective communication skills and establishing boundaries.

The workshop is open to both current volunteers and Wyndham residents interested in taking the volunteering plunge. It covers a gamut of topics including understanding what boundaries are, why they are crucial, and how to set them. Also on the agenda is a comprehensive overview of how to navigate conversations about flexible arrangements and accessibility needs, arming volunteers with the tools they need to advocate for themselves effectively.

So, whether you’re a local organisation dreaming big or an individual looking to donate your time and skills, Wyndham City seems to be the place where those dreams can take flight. Just don’t forget to mark that application deadline in your calendar; you won’t want to miss this opportunity to make a tangible difference in the community.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
