Cricket Australia recognises honour recipients

Cricket Australia congratulates all those in the cricket community recognised today in the 2023 honours list. These individuals have been awarded the country’s highest honours in recognition of their contribution and service to the sport.

Former Cricket Australia Chair Wally Edwards has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM).

Recognised for his significant services to cricket administration, Edwards was Chair of Cricket Australia from 2011-2015, having previously been a Director since 1996.

His contribution to the game has been instrumental with Edwards also holding positions on the Boards of the International Cricket Council (ICC), ICC World Cup, Bradman Foundation and WA Cricket, the latter of which he is a Life Member.

Edwards also played three Test matches and one One-Day International for Australia in 1974 and 1975.

Former Cricket Victoria Director Susan Crow and Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Trustee Belinda Duarte have also been appointed Members of the Order of Australia.

Crow has been recognised for her significant service to sports administration, which includes 10 years on the Cricket Victoria Board and five years as Executive Director for Women’s Cricket Australia.

During her time at Cricket Victoria, of which she is a Life Member, Crow has been a part of a range of committees including the Victorian Aboriginal Cricket Advisory and Women’s Cricket Committees.

Duarte, a descendant of Yanggendyinanyuk (Dick-a-Dick)—a member of the Aboriginal XI which was the first Australian sporting team to tour internationally in 1868, has been recognised for significant service to the Indigenous community, and to sports administration.

In addition to being an MCG Trustee, Duarte has also been Co-Chair of the Victorian Aboriginal Cricket Advisory Committee.

Ten members of the Australian cricket community have been awarded the Medal of the Order of (OAM) including David Crow, Ivo Havard, Kent Mayo, Henry Maskauskas, Brian O’Malley, Graham Reed, Marshall Rosen, Alexander Ross, Arthur Watson, Glenn Wright, for their service to cricket.

Nick Hockley, Cricket Australia’s Chief Executive Officer, commended those in the cricket community who have been recognised in the 2023 honours list.

On behalf of the Australian cricket family, I congratulate each recipient for being awarded the country’s highest honours for their significant contributions to cricket,” said Hockley.

“It is terrific to see so many recipients, including our former chair Wally Edwards, recognised for their outstanding service and contribution to the sport and the community.

“Wally’s long association with cricket and his leadership and service across state, national and international administration has been instrumental in shaping many aspects of the modern game.

“Susan’s hard-work and dedication to growing the game is inspiring while Belinda’s work with First Nations communities will have a lasting impact.”
