Thousands of students will start 2021 in new schools, as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s commitment to open 100 new schools.

Minister for Education James Merlino recently announced that works on all 14 new primary and secondary schools for 2021 had now been completed ahead of staff and students attending in Term 1, 2021.

Construction works have recently been completed on Footscray High School’s $29.275 million Pilgrim Campus, and the following new schools already completed to open in 2021:

  • Aintree Primary School
  • Docklands Primary School
  • Cranbourne West Secondary College
  • Edenbrook Secondary College
  • Edgars Creek Primary School
  • Eynesbury Primary School
  • Gaayip-Yagila Primary School
  • Garrang Wilam Primary School
  • Keelonith Primary School
  • Orchard Park Primary School
  • Oberon High School
  • Ramlegh Park Primary School
  • Riverbend Primary School

The Labor Government’s school building boom is creating new facilities for those in Melbourne’s growing suburbs, while delivering vital jobs as we drive the state’s economic recovery from the pandemic, according to an official press release.

Every new Victorian primary school being built from 2021 will have a kindergarten on-site or next door, to reduce the burden on parents and carers while continuing to build the Education State.

In the past five years, the Labor Government has invested more than $9 billion in more than 1,600 school upgrades—creating more than 10,000 construction jobs—and is now ahead of schedule its commitment to open 100 new schools by 2026, with 48 new schools opening between 2019 and 2022.

Merlino said,  “Victorian families deserve to have access to a great local school and in 2021, we are delivering that with new schools to ensure children receive a world-class education close to home. Our education construction boom is the biggest in the country– proving why we are the Education State.”
