A nature play area, basketball court and additional trees are just some of the new features being installed at Friar Place Park in Point Cook.
Wyndham City Mayor Cr Mia Shaw and Cr Peter Maynard joined Member for Altona District Jill Hennessy MP to commemorate the start of construction in a ceremony on Friday, 11 October.
The $400,000 Wyndham City project is jointly funded by Council and the Victorian Government, with the government contributing a $200,000 grant through the Growing Suburbs Fund.
Wyndham City Mayor and Family Friendly City portfolio holder Cr Mia Shaw said the new features would make the park more tranquil and fun.
“The new trees will not only provide shade but make the park a more relaxing, calming place to spend time in,” Cr Shaw said. “In addition, the basketball court, new swings and seesaw and nature-play area will create new opportunities for children to run around and explore.”
The nature-based play areas here include trees children can climb, plants they can touch and logs they can balance on, allowing children to go back to basics and get their hands dirty. A new footpath surrounding the park will also mean that residents of all age groups can get their daily steps up and exercise in a pleasant environment.
The project is due to be completed in March 2020.
