Wyndham City councillors were presented with 11 submissions at the Special Council Meeting for the Proposed Annual Plan and Budget 2019/20 on 12 June.
Wyndham City Mayor Cr Mia Shaw said Council’s proposed Budget was endorsed by Council on 16 April and made available for public comment for a period of 28 days.
“During the initial community consultation period from October 2018 to March 2019 we also had 773 ideas submitted by the community to help shape the budget before the draft was written up,” Cr Shaw said.
“Each of these ideas were reviewed by Council and key findings are outlined in the Community Engagement Report for the Proposed Annual Plan and Budget 2019/20. This report is available on The Loop. On top of this, Council received eleven budget submissions from the community and eight of the submitters presented their proposals at last night’s Special Council Meeting,” said Cr Shaw.
The submissions include the building of a public swimming pool/recreation facilities at Point Cook; the establishment of a botanic garden in Wyndham; the creation of more jobs that the embrace innovative technology and more playground equipment for the park at the corner of Featherbrook Drive and Keel Street.
“Although some of these submissions relate to State Government decisions and funding, Council will pass these ideas on to our local State politicians. Councillors are always keen to hear the ideas and concerns of the community and when we see individuals from all backgrounds present their ideas at Council Chambers, it provides us with a bigger picture of what the community wants and how we can work on solutions together,” said Cr Shaw.
Council will now consider these proposals and make a decision on whether they will form part of the 2019/20 financial year budget.
“Once we go through all of these submissions, councillors will discuss them, and their decisions will be revealed at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 25 June 2019.”
