Soil turning ceremony marks civil works commencement at Windermere

At a soil turning ceremony this morning, leading Australian property developer, Country Garden Australia, celebrated the commencement of civil works construction at its masterplanned residential community ‘Windermere’, 38 kilometres south-west of the Melbourne CBD.

Located on Greens Road, Mambourin, the community will ultimately become home to an estimated 14,800 residents, based on 2016 census data, with over 4,700 house lots to be delivered across 363 hectares.

Dr Guotao Hu, CEO, Country Garden Australia, joined Richie Ward from construction partners BMD Urban, along with other contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders at the soil turning ceremony, held at Windermere’s 500sqm state-of-the-art display suite.

“This is a really exciting time for us at Country Garden Australia—delivering large scale mixed-use masterplanned house and land communities is what Country Garden is renowned for around the world, and Windermere is our first foray into this asset class in Australia,” said Mr Hu.

“We’re really keen to showcase our unique skill set and expertise in Australia with this scale of project delivery, and the commencement of stage 1 is an important first step for Windermere, especially given the longevity of the project. We’ll be here on the ground for many years to come.”

Over 3,000 people have registered their interest in Windermere since April, when the project was launched to market, with over 260 lots sold to date.

Lots range in size from 350sqm to 723sqm, with prices starting at $274,000 for 392sqm.

Windermere will ultimately feature three public schools and one private school, a community centre, indoor recreation centre, childcare facility and sporting ovals for AFL and cricket, plus netball courts.

“Windermere is designed for people seeking an active and engaged lifestyle. It will also feature over three kilometres of walking paths set amongst 50 hectares of open space, including a wetlands, parklands, sports areas and reserves,” added Mr Hu.

“It’s been designed to enrich every part of its residents’ lives and will be an outstanding landmark community that we will use to showcase our speciality for years to come.”
