Who's Who of Melbourne's Indian Community 2017
Ashwini Sonthalia

Ashwini Sonthalia—Entrepreneur

Gaura Travel, co-founded by Ashwini Sonthalia, prides itself on customer service and innovation. “There are two things that set my business apart—marketing and service.”

Ashwini says he owes its success to his family’s business background. “I started Gaura Travel with my brother and business partner Abhishek in 2007. He had done some research and knew that it was an area that would continue to see growth for a while.”

With the tagline “The Sub-continent Specialist”, Gaura Travel has crossed more than 30,000 customers. The travel house’s innovative methods have been successful and the agency now has interstate offices, sends out SMS notifications of specials, and has created the 1300 FLY INDIA line and 24×7 customer service option.

“Couples and families for a large chunk of our clientele,” says Ashwini. “Most of them are not in a position to take a decision on the spot. By the time the family arrives at a decision it is too late in the evening to do anything about it as the travel agents are closed. The 24×7 option takes care of that. The customer does not feel rushed,” says Ashwini, who adds that there is a world of opportunity out there for everyone. “It is just about finding a need and making sure you are the first to fulfill it.”

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
