Vigour, vibrancy and festivity set the tone for the India Club’s Diwali celebrations at Castle Grand. The event was held on 25 October, and saw more than 350 people in attendance.

The function was attended by the leading citizens of the area including the Parliamentarians, Police Commander, Counsel General of India and many other politicians who shared in the spirit of Diwali.

“The India Club’s party was a huge success. It was a combined effort of the India Club organising team, sponsors, members, performers, 7 Flavours, Abhinay School: 100 Years of Cinema, Maya da Dhaba, Decor e Shan, DJ Dimple, Videographer Desai, media, and guests,” says Shubha Kumar, president of India Club.

“The function was booked out well in advance. My only regret is that many more people wanting to join could not be accommodated. The tables were limited the hall to ensure comfort and ease for those who had already booked. We hope people missing out this year, would book early next year. All the more, we encourage you come on board right now, and be an active member of the club,” says Akshey Kumar, Chairman of India Club.

During the Diwali celebrations, the India Club Star was announced, an award given to a person influencing the lives of others and impacting the world to be a finer place to live”. The panel selected Bev Jordan India Club Star 2013.

She was chosen, says Shubha Kumar, in recognition of her heavy involvement in “Hills Relay for Life”, the largest community event to raise funds for cancer research, to educate the community and make them aware about the importance of cancer prevention through her professional skills, and also for her desire, dedication and significant contribution to bring about positive change in the community via other projects and for improving life of others.

A proud surprise for the club was the unanimous recognition of India Club by the Parliament of NSW. The Hon. David Clarke presented the Certificate to India Club with great delight and gusto.

Arun Kumar Goel- Counsel General of India, Dominic Perottett -Member for Castle Hill, Philip Ruddock -federal Member for Berrowra, David Clarke Member of the Legislative Council and Parliamentary Secretary for Justice, David Elliott, member for Baulkham Hills, Dr. Geoff Lee – Member for Parramatta, Julie Owens, Federal Member for Parramatta, Dr Michelle Byrne -Mayor The Hills Shire Council, and Inspector Helen Deen, representing Police Commander the Hills Local Area Command were some of the public figures who attended the function .

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.
