It’s time to celebrate the “Who’s Who of Melbourne” 2013, 50 people who have contributed to the lives of the Indian community in the city

2012 saw the debut of the coffee table publication “Who’s Who of Melbourne”, which was a smashing hit. And now, as 2013 draws to a close, the second edition of ‘Who’s Who’ will release, featuring 50 people who have contributed a great deal towards the Indian community in Melbourne.

You’ve seen them, heard of them, watched them work… entrepreneurs, doctors, activists, leaders, all of them visionaries in their own way, making tremendous contributions in different fields in Melbourne. And now it’s time to celebrate those contributions.

Savita K Soni for instance, is one of the best known radio voices from the Indian community — “Working with the community gives me immense satisfaction,” says Savita.

Or Dr Jayant Bhalchandra Bapat, who retired as senior lecturer in Organic Chemistry in 1998, but has since dedicated his life towards the serving the community, having performed over 800 rituals for people all over Australia.

Molina Swarup Asthana, another of the chosen 50, is a principal solicitor with the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office, who chose a career with the government as she finds this more fulfilling.

Nesan Naidoo, founder and CEO of Mind Modelling, a coaching and corporate training company based in Melbourne, has worked with some of the largest blue chip companies in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

Manpreet Singh, journalist par excellence, has carved a niche for herself in the media and earned widespread respect and recognition in Australia and beyond.

They’re just five of the fifty people featured in the souvenir, an annual publication that is published in conjunction with the Indian Executive Club Awards.

This year, the souvenir will be launched on 30 October at the Pitcher Partners office, Melbourne.

The Board of Advisors, who helped select the 50 nominees are Vijaya and Gopal Vaidyanath, Arun and Jaya Sharma, Councillor Intaj Khan, Councillor Gautam Gupta, Rakesh and Monika Raizada, Hari Yellini, Amit Kumar and Sanjeev Singh.
Chairperson for the IEC awards is Vinay Sharma and the vice chairperson is Malvika Mehta.

Tanu Kallivayalil and Shveata Chandel Singh form the editorial team for the souvenir, with photography by Bhargav Bhoppa. Anu Shabharwal is the co-ordinator for this venture.

Here’s presenting the complete list of Who’s Who 2013.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.
