Music lovers in Melbourne are set for a musical treat with Lucky Ali live in Melbourne soon.
There are some, who don’t want to be a part of crowd, but try to carve a separate space for them in whatever they do.
Maqsood Mehmood Ali or Lucky Ali is one such singer, lyricist, actor and composer. He is best known for his simple, soulful ballad style singing. He is the second of the eight children of the immensely talented actor Mehmood and nephew of legendary Meena Kumari.
Lucky is one among those who have lived their life on their own terms. His career is as unassuming and unexpected as his own singing style. Gifted a guitar at the age of 13, he taught himself to play it but never considered his career lay in music.
He has experimented with different phases in life. Being a versatile personality he has tested various fields. From selling carpets to breeding sheep in farm and from acting in movies to composing and singing; Lucky Ali has done it all but he is best known for his singing style and melodious voice.
In a varied life that has seen him try his hands in acting and direction it was finally music which caught his fantasy.
Being son of a Bollywood actor, Lucky grew up in Bollywood , sung several songs and even acted in movies like ‘Kaante’ and ‘Sur’, though his life is not restricted to Bollywood.
As a playback singer he made his debut in 1978 in a film starring Mehmood. He shot to fame with ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’ and his song ‘Na Tum Jano Na Hum’ fetched him Filmfare Award. He also won the Filmfare for the song ‘Ahista Ahista ‘from the movie ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’.
The versatile artist made his pop debut with the soulful album ‘Sunoh’ which catapulted him to fame. This album won him the award for ‘Best Pop Male Vocalist’ in 1996, ‘Screen Awards’ and Channel V ‘Viewers Choice Award’ in 1997.
His song ‘O Sanam’ from ‘Sunoh’ stayed on the top of MTV charts for at least 60 weeks and some of the people considered it as one of the best Indi-Pop song ever.
Even his albums ‘Sifar’, ‘Aks’ , ‘Gori Tere Aankhein’and ‘Kabhi Aisa Lagta Hai’ ,were much acclaimed by music lovers.
Lucky’s best known chartbusting songs include ‘Anjaani Rahoon Mein’ ,’O Sanam’ , ‘Jaanaa Hai’, ‘Ahista Ahista’, all of his songs in M M Kreem’s Sur , ‘Ek Pal Ka Jina’ and ‘Na Tum Jano Na Hum’.
It would be right to say that he is not some remix artist who is forced solely on glamour to get people to listen but he has uniqueness in singing style.
Music has shaped Lucky’s life and his distinct voice and songs won him fans!

Support Independent Community Journalism
Dear Reader,The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.
We operate independently.
