Applications have opened for a $2 million Queensland Government grants programme supporting community-led projects aimed at strengthening participation, access to services and connections among culturally diverse communities.
The Strengthening Communities Multicultural Grants programme will provide individual grants of up to $100,000 for eligible projects across metropolitan and regional Queensland.
The 2026-27 funding round has two categories: Empowering Multicultural Communities Projects and Youth and Community Connection Projects.
Projects can focus on supporting the social and economic aspirations of culturally diverse Queenslanders, building the capacity of community organisations, improving access to services and helping people connect with local activities.
The programme also aims to support initiatives that respond to emerging issues and improve the ability of local services to work with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Queensland Minister for Multiculturalism Fiona Simpson said the grants were intended to support locally led initiatives and encourage participation in community life.
“We’re focused on bringing people together this month and this funding pool supports Queenslanders from all backgrounds to fully participate in community life and access the opportunities they need to thrive,” Simpson said.
The latest funding round was announced on the final day of Multicultural Queensland Month celebrations.
The 2025-26 grants programme supported 25 projects across metropolitan and regional areas, including communities in Far North, North, Central, South East and Western Queensland.
One previous recipient was Maranoa Regional Council, which received support for its Languages Connect programme. The initiative provides practical assistance to people who speak English as a second language, helping participants build confidence, access services and take part in community activities.
Maranoa Regional Council councillor Meryl Brumpton said the grant had helped the council respond to the needs of its diverse and growing community.
“The Strengthening Communities Multicultural grant is incredibly valuable in helping us respond to the needs of our growing, diverse community,” Brumpton said.
The 2026-27 grants are available for projects that meet the programme’s eligibility requirements and demonstrate benefits for culturally diverse communities.
Successful projects can commence from 1 July 2027 and run for up to two years, with funding available until 30 June 2029.
Applications close on 4 October 2026.
