The Victorian Government is promoting a wide range of free school holiday activities across the state, with zoos, museums, galleries and outdoor attractions opening their doors to families during April.
Acting Premier Ben Carroll and Tourism Minister Steve Dimopoulos visited Melbourne Zoo to highlight the program, which includes free entry for children under 16 at several major attractions.
Families can visit Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Open Range Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary and Kyabram Fauna Park for free through the Kids Go Free program.
At Melbourne Zoo, visitors can see the only snow leopard cubs currently in Australia, along with giraffe calves and the return of the Dinos at the Zoo attraction.
Other free activities are being offered at some of Victoria’s best-known cultural venues. Families can visit Melbourne Museum for exhibitions and interactive displays, while Scienceworks is hosting STEM-focused activities for children.
Art lovers can head to the National Gallery of Victoria and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, where free exhibitions and workshops are taking place during the school holiday period.
Families looking to spend time outdoors can explore the Chelsea Australian Garden or the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne, both of which offer free entry.
Regional destinations are also expected to benefit, with visitors encouraged to explore the Koala Trail on Raymond Island to spot native wildlife.
The government says the activities are designed to support families during the school holiday break while also bringing more visitors to tourism, hospitality and retail businesses across the state.
Families can also take part in the Metro Tunnel Passport Challenge, which encourages visitors to explore all five new Metro Tunnel stations and collect stamps along the way.
Ben Carroll said free public transport during April would make it easier for families to travel to destinations across Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Steve Dimopoulos said the program offered something for families of all interests without adding to household costs.
Member for Northern Metropolitan Region Sheena Watt said the combination of free public transport and free entry to major attractions would encourage more Victorians to get out during the school holidays.
Jenny Gray said Easter was a popular time for zoo visits, with the free entry program expected to bring even more families through the gates.
