Colleagues at the Australian High Commission in India gathered in Delhi this week for a regular town hall, where High Commissioner Philip Green took time to acknowledge the efforts of long-serving staff and their role in strengthening Australia–India relations.

The event brought together members of the High Commission family, offering a moment to reflect on the work being done across teams and to recognise individual contributions. Speaking at the gathering, Mr Green highlighted the importance of sustained commitment from staff in supporting the broader objectives of Australia’s engagement with India.

A key part of the session focused on recognising colleagues who have served for many years, with their ongoing contributions described as central to the day-to-day functioning of the mission. Their work spans a range of areas that support diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between the two countries.

Mr Green also presented a special commendation to Kathryn McMorrow, who received an Australian Defence Force Group Gold Commendation. The award acknowledged her contribution within the Gender Peace and Security Directorate, where her work has been noted for its consistency and professionalism.

The recognition reflects the range of responsibilities carried out by staff across the High Commission, including those working in defence-related and policy-driven roles. It also highlights the collaborative nature of the mission, with teams working across different functions while contributing to shared goals.

The town hall served as a reminder of the people behind diplomatic efforts and the value placed on service within the organisation. It also provided an opportunity for colleagues to connect, share updates, and acknowledge each other’s efforts in a formal setting.

Such gatherings are a regular feature of the High Commission’s internal calendar, offering a structured space to communicate priorities while also recognising the work that supports Australia’s diplomatic presence in India.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
