A youth conference organised by Hindu Youth Australia will take place in Auburn later this month, bringing together young people from across the community to discuss history, culture and shared values within the Hindu diaspora.

The sixth Australian Hindu Youth Conference will be held on Sunday 22 March at the Regency Function Centre in Auburn, running from 9am to 4pm. The event is open to young people aged 13 and above and will include presentations, discussions and interactive activities led by youth speakers.

Organisers say the gathering aims to encourage young participants to ask questions about their heritage and to reflect on the variety of traditions that exist across Hindu communities.

Sessions during the day will include panel discussions examining the experiences and cultural practices of groups such as Kashmiri Pandits, Fiji Hindus and Tamil Hindus. Speakers will discuss how these communities have maintained their traditions while living in different parts of the world.

Another discussion will focus on Indian classical music and the different forms of expression that have developed over time within the tradition. Organisers say the panel will look at how music has served as a way for Hindu culture to be expressed and shared.

Alongside the discussions, the programme will include games and debates designed to encourage participation among young attendees.

Hindu Youth Australia, the group behind the conference, was established in 2009 as the youth wing of Vishwa Hindu Parishad. The organisation says its work centres on helping young Hindus build a stronger understanding of their heritage and values while connecting with peers.

Over the years, the group has organised youth conferences, workshops and children’s camps across Australia, focusing on leadership, cultural education and community engagement.

Registration for the Auburn event costs $15 and includes refreshments and meals during the day. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided for participants.

According to organisers, the conference is intended to provide a space where young people can exchange ideas and learn about the range of cultural traditions within the broader Hindu community.

The event is expected to draw students and young professionals from across Sydney and neighbouring areas. Registration is available online through a public form shared by the organisers.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.
