Logan’s Australia Day Awards shone a light on grassroots service this year, with Raj Aggarwal named the recipient of the Spirit of Logan Award for his long-standing commitment to the city and its people.

The award recognises individuals whose efforts strengthen community ties and contribute to the wellbeing and safety of the region. Aggarwal’s work spans volunteer service, local events, emergency response, and neighbourhood support, reflecting a hands-on approach to civic life.

A familiar figure across Logan, Aggarwal has played a central role in coordinating community events such as Christmas Carols and in the ongoing management of the Mundoolun Community Centre. His involvement extends beyond event organisation, with active service as a rural firefighter and a member of the State Emergency Service, roles that place him on the frontline during times of need.

The City of Logan highlighted Aggarwal’s ability to bring people together through connection programs and safety initiatives, noting the consistency of his contribution over many years. His work has supported residents across different age groups and backgrounds, helping build trust and a shared sense of responsibility within the community.

The Spirit of Logan Award sits among the city’s highest civic honours, celebrating service that is sustained rather than symbolic. In recognising Aggarwal, the awards underscored the importance of volunteers whose impact is often quiet but enduring.

As Logan marked Australia Day by acknowledging local contribution, Aggarwal’s recognition reflected the role community leadership continues to play in shaping everyday life across the city.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
