Venues for the opening two matches of the KFC BBL|15 Finals have been confirmed, setting the stage for a decisive run to the title across Perth, Hobart and Sydney.
Perth Scorchers, who finished top of the BBL|15 table, will host second-placed Sydney Sixers in The Qualifier on Tuesday, January 20 at Optus Stadium. The winner will earn the right to host The Final, placing immediate stakes on the first night of the Finals series.
Hobart Hurricanes, finishing third, will host Melbourne Stars in The Knockout on Wednesday, January 21 at Ninja Stadium, with the winner advancing to The Challenger.
The Finals schedule opens with The Qualifier on Tuesday, January 20 at 7:30pm AEDT at Optus Stadium, followed by The Knockout on Wednesday, January 21 at 7:30pm AEDT at Ninja Stadium. The Challenger will be played on Friday, January 23 at 7:15pm AEDT, with the venue to be confirmed, before The Final on Sunday, January 25 at 7:15pm AEDT, also at a venue yet to be announced.
Tickets for the Qualifier and Knockout will be available from 10am local venue time tomorrow for members, with general public sales opening at midday. Tickets for The Challenger and The Final will go on sale on Wednesday.
Every Finals match will be broadcast on Seven, 7plus, Foxtel and Kayo Sports, with radio coverage available on ABC Sport and SEN.
The Finals follow a strong home and away season, with BBL|15 recording the highest average audience per match of the Seven and Fox broadcast era. Average attendance reached 24,089 per match, the highest since BBL|07.
Cricket Australia’s Executive General Manager of Big Bash Leagues, Alistair Dobson, said the season had resonated with fans nationwide.
“The KFC BBL|15 season has delighted fans across the country, with world class cricket and nail-biting finishes being enjoyed every night by huge crowds and audiences watching via our broadcast partners,” Dobson said.
“We congratulate the four clubs who have progressed to the Finals series and look forward to an epic Finals series to conclude our biggest season yet.”
Following the Finals, the BBL Contracting Embargo will begin on Tuesday, January 27 at 5:15pm, pausing all contracting activity. The embargo will be temporarily lifted for the BBL Player Movement Window, which runs from Wednesday, January 28 at 9:00am to Thursday, February 5 at 5:00pm. During this period, clubs may sign players coming off contract from rival clubs or complete trades involving players and draft picks.
Clubs may hold a maximum of 10 players prior to the opening of the Window, expanding to 12 players by its close.
