adelaide is about to get a delicious new option for authentic South Indian vegetarian cuisine, as the globally renowned Saravanaa Bhavan prepares to launch deliveries and takeaways starting 8 December at its soon-to-open Lightsview Village location. The official grand opening is planned for the end of the month, marking the brand’s first outlet in Adelaide and its fourth Australian city after Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

For Shekar Mani, Saravanaa Bhavan’s partner for Australia and New Zealand, the decision to enter Adelaide was clear. “With the growing Indian community here—especially students and skilled migrants—plus a booming IT sector, Adelaide is a natural next step,” he explains. “We’re excited to start serving locals through deliveries and takeaways from early December, before welcoming diners to our full restaurant experience.”

The Lightsview Village restaurant will feature the brand’s signature modern-yet-warm design, seating around 110 guests, while keeping prices accessible. The kitchen, led by four chefs trained in Saravanaa Bhavan’s authentic cooking methods, will offer the classic menu favourites, including masala dosa, idli, thalis, Mumbai-style street food, and North Indian dishes.

“We know families have varied tastes, so our menu covers a broad spectrum—from bhel puri to Punjabi curries—ensuring everyone finds something to love,” Mani says. He adds that weekend breakfast buffets and fresh cold-pressed juices will be highlights once the dine-in experience begins.

Starting December 8th, Saravanaa Bhavan will roll out delivery and takeaway options across Adelaide to build momentum and excitement on social media channels, partnering with a local digital agency to share the flavours and stories behind their cuisine.

“There’s a common myth that all Indian food is too spicy, but we want more Australians to discover the rich, balanced flavours of South Indian cooking,” Mani says “We’ll be tracking social media closely to engage with customers and respond to feedback as we grow.”

The grand opening at the end of December will be a major celebration, with Saravanaa Bhavan’s Chairman and Managing Director, Shiva Kumar, flying in from Europe to mark the occasion.

Since first arriving in Australia in 2012, Saravanaa Bhavan has steadily expanded to six outlets across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and now Adelaide—with plans to reach 20 restaurants nationwide within three years, including future sites in Perth and Auckland.

Mani sees Adelaide and other smaller cities as key growth areas: “While major cities have upscale Indian dining, smaller markets are hungry for authentic, affordable options. The Indian diaspora here is growing fast, and we want to be part of that story.”

For now, locals can look forward to ordering their favourite dosas, thalis, and more starting December 8th—with full dine-in service coming by the month’s end.
