Adelaide University is expected to open next year with the largest cohort of domestic students in the country and is projected to educate more than 70,000 students by 2034

The first enrolment for Adelaide University will take place on Monday morning, marking an early moment of change for the institution created through the merger of the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia.

Summer school and online students will be first to log in at 9 o’clock, beginning a two week rollout that will see different student groups gain access to their enrolment windows each weekday until 12 December. The final group, students in the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, will make their selections from 1pm on the last day of the schedule.

Students transitioning from the two existing universities, along with those who have already received offers for 2026, will be able to complete their enrolment during this period. Those receiving their offers via SATAC on 15 January 2026, largely Year 12 graduates from the 2025 SACE cohort, will receive personalised details through the new myEnrolment portal.

Adelaide University is expected to open next year with the largest cohort of domestic students in the country and is projected to educate more than 70,000 students by 2034.

Minister Joe Szakacs called the start of enrolments “a massive milestone”. He said, “Our Government has worked tirelessly to realise this once-in-a-generation-opportunity and deliver for the future of our state’s economy and for South Australian students. To get to this point has been a monumental effort, so when the first student enrols in a class at Adelaide University on Monday morning it will be a landmark moment.”

He added, “That student will be opening the floodgates for thousands more students, from every corner of our state, from a broader range of backgrounds to access a world-class education right here in South Australia.”

Deputy Vice Chancellor Jessica Gallagher described the opening of enrolments as “a major milestone for Adelaide University”. She said, “We’re building a place where they can access world-class education. Adelaide University is firmly on track to open and to open well in January 2026, bringing together significant academic and research capability to achieve even greater positive impact for our students, partners and the community.”

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
