The Allan Labor Government has opened applications for the first round of its $5 million Multicultural Infrastructure and Security Program, aimed at helping Victorians from diverse backgrounds maintain safe and welcoming spaces for cultural and religious gatherings.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs Ingrid Stitt said the new program would support maintenance works, renovations, and security upgrades for multicultural and multifaith facilities across Victoria. Grants of up to $400,000 are available for community organisations seeking to improve their buildings and ensure they remain inclusive for all Victorians.

“These grants are all about helping to create safe, welcoming places in Victoria where people from all backgrounds can come together, celebrate culture and share traditions,” Minister Stitt said.

The initiative recognises the essential role multicultural and multifaith organisations play in strengthening social cohesion, fostering understanding, and supporting community connection.

It builds on the Labor Government’s continuing investment in multicultural communities through a range of programs, including the 2024–25 Chinese Community Infrastructure Fund, the 2023–24 Multicultural Community Infrastructure Fund, and the Jewish Community Security Infrastructure Program. It also complements the recently announced $5 million fund to boost the capacity and sustainability of multicultural organisations, which will open next year.

Since 2014, the Government has invested more than $100 million in over 600 multicultural infrastructure projects across Victoria, benefitting thousands of people and reinforcing the state’s reputation as one of Australia’s most diverse and inclusive.

“We’re proud to support the communities that make Victoria such a diverse and inclusive place – and we’ll always stand against racism and discrimination in every form,” Minister Stitt said.

Applications for the Multicultural Infrastructure and Security Program are open from 13 October 2025 and close on 5 January 2026. Further details and application guidelines are available here.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
