The North Queensland Hindu Community (NQHC) has celebrated an unforgettable Navarathri, filled with devotion, unity, and divine energy. Over eleven sacred days, the temple was alive with chants, music, and prayers as record numbers of devotees gathered to honour Goddess Durga Mahalakshmi.

From daily poojas and cultural gatherings to devotional bhajans and prasadham distribution, every moment carried the spirit of faith and community. Volunteers played a central role, coordinating rituals, preparing offerings, and ensuring that every visitor felt part of the celebration.

“The shraddha and bhakti shown this year brought Shree Durga Mahalakshmi into our midst in a truly moving way,” said a temple spokesperson. “It felt as though the Goddess had already entered her home.”

As this year’s Navarathri came to a close, the community turned its attention to an eagerly awaited milestone—the Bhoomi Pooja for the new Shree Durga Mahalakshmi Temple, set for 23 November 2025. The ceremony will mark the start of construction on a long-held dream to create a permanent temple in North Queensland, offering a lasting place of worship and cultural continuity for generations to come.

Grounded in faith and strengthened by collective purpose, the North Queensland Hindu Community is building more than a temple—it is shaping a legacy of devotion, connection, and shared identity that will continue to grow with time.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
