The 2025 Maggie Awards have recognised the dedication and expertise of staff within Statewide Mental Health Services, highlighting their contributions to care and support across Tasmania.
Launched in 2023 and held every two years, the Maggie Awards honour staff members whose work reflects exceptional skill and commitment. The awards pay tribute in part to the late Dr Margaret Tobin, a respected leader in mental health, and draw inspiration from the magnolia flower, which symbolises perseverance, dignity, strength, compassion, dedication and commitment.
This year, 142 individual nominations were received across five categories: Emerging Leader, Clinical Excellence, Lifetime Achievement, Team Member and Maggie Qualities. Winners were celebrated at an event in the North of the state, attended by Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing Bridget Archer.
“The Maggie Awards recognise the outstanding contributions of staff within Statewide Mental Health Services, both for the care they provide to Tasmanians and their broader commitment to the service,” Minister Archer said. “The awards highlight the depth of excellence, compassion, and dedication to improving care and treatment, and that is something to celebrate. I was pleased to present the awards to the worthy recipients here in the North.”
Minister Archer also extended congratulations to all nominees, thanking staff across the state for their everyday commitment to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of the community.
The 2025 Maggie Award winners are:
- Clinical Excellence: Lorraine Cheung – South Safety & Quality
- Emerging Leader: Glenn Garlick – South AMH/MHER
- Lifetime Achievement: Cecily Pollard – South Safety & Quality
- Team Member: Manda Nicholas – CYMHS North
- Maggie Qualities: Amanda Blackburn – CYMHS North West
The awards provide an opportunity to recognise both individual achievements and team efforts, shining a light on the commitment and professionalism of Tasmania’s mental health workforce.

Dear Reader,The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution.
