Liverpool earns tourism award nominations with Starry Sari Nights, Bellbird and Powerhouse

Liverpool has been named a finalist in three categories at the 2025 Western Sydney Tourism Awards, with local leaders crediting the recognition to years of investment in culture, food, and creative infrastructure.

The city’s standout entries include the popular Starry Sari Nights event, Bellbird Restaurant and Bar, and Liverpool Powerhouse—formerly Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.

Mayor Ned Mannoun said the nominations reflect how much has changed across the city and the growing interest from beyond its boundaries.

“Liverpool is setting the standard for what Southwestern Sydney can offer,” he said.

“These nominations show we’re delivering rich cultural experiences, outstanding food, and vibrant creative spaces that attract people from across Sydney and beyond.”

Council’s Starry Sari Nights has become one of Western Sydney’s most anticipated South Asian night markets. The event takes over the Liverpool CBD, blending food, fashion, music, and community in a way that keeps crowds coming back. Thousands attended the most recent edition, which has helped solidify the event as a signature moment in the local calendar.

On the dining front, Bellbird Restaurant and Bar, located at Liverpool Powerhouse, continues to turn heads. It operates with a seasonal, paddock-to-plate philosophy and gives apprentice chefs a platform to design and deliver a fresh menu shaped by the region’s cultural diversity. The restaurant has gained a loyal following among both locals and visitors.

“Meals are thoughtfully curated to reflect and celebrate the diverse contemporary cultures of our community. Through food, Bellbird honours art, heritage, and tradition, transforming mealtimes into a rich and meaningful cultural experience,” Council said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Liverpool Powerhouse is now being recognised as one of the region’s leading music and arts venues. Its recent programming has included concerts, theatre, community workshops, and festivals that have helped raise its national profile and bring in new audiences. It has also provided a steady stream of support for emerging creatives and visiting acts.

All three nominations reflect a broader shift in how Liverpool is positioning itself—not just as a place to live and work, but as a destination in its own right.

Winners will be announced in September.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
