Hare Krishna Melbourne (ISKCON) will bring the Madhavas Rock Band to The Timber Yard on Sunday, 14 September 2025, for a concert that blends devotional kirtan with the energy of live rock. Running from 3pm to 8pm, the event will feature food stalls, interactive chanting, and a festival atmosphere aimed at connecting audiences through music and community spirit.

Formed in Sri Vrindavan Dham, India, Madhavas have built an international following with performances that combine sacred mantras and contemporary instrumentation. They have appeared as finalists on India’s Got Talent and have been recognised for their musicality on MTV’s Rock On. Their YouTube channel has attracted millions of views, reflecting their reach beyond traditional devotional circles.

Led by frontman and vocalist Nandu Madhav, the group’s line-up brings together musicians with deep roots in bhakti-yoga and a shared aim of making spiritual practice engaging for a modern audience. Their style fuses rock arrangements with traditional kirtan melodies, resulting in performances that are both high-energy and meditative. They have played to crowds at festivals and cultural gatherings across India, Europe, and North America, often inspiring spontaneous dancing and call-and-response chanting.

For the Melbourne event, organisers say the band’s ability to connect with audiences goes beyond the music itself. “Through kirtan, they invite everyone to sing, dance, and celebrate consciousness in a vibrant, collective experience,” Hare Krishna Melbourne said in its event announcement. The concert is expected to draw both regular kirtan participants and newcomers curious about the devotional tradition.

Tickets are available exclusively through Humanitix, priced at $60, with children under five admitted free. General admission is standing, with limited seating available for those in need.

The Timber Yard is located at 351 Plummer Street, Port Melbourne. More details contact Madhavananda on 0400 697 993 or Kaushalyananda on 0411 843 709

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
