Cricket for Climate recently organised a workshop titled “Batting for change” at Cricket Central aimed at building stronger connections with the South Asian Cricket Community.

Kamil Khan and other south Asian leaders made valuablecontributed to the event, helping to raise awareness and support for the noble cause, Cricket for Climate.

Cricket for Climate was established in 2021 by Australian Test and ODI Captain, Pat Cummins. It’s a player-led movement focused on driving climate action within the cricket community and beyond.

Proud sister of Patrick, Kara Cummins was thrilled to witness the enthusiasm and strong support from South Asian community for “Climate for Cricket.”

“Cricket has a remarkable ability to unite and ignite communities—from the camaraderie at local matches to the roar of packed stadiums. But cricket is also deeply reliant on the climate. Anyone who’s sweated through an innings or had a match cancelled due to heat or rain knows how vulnerable our game is to changing climate.

That’s why it was so powerful to bring South Asian cricket lovers together to have candid conversations about how climate change threatens the future of the game we love—and how we can harness the community spirit of the game to take action locally.

Former Sri Lankan Test and ODI cricketer, Russel Arnold and scientist Jason Evans answered the questions about the climate and its direct and indirect effect on Cricket.

Sam Singh, who has been running a local cricket competition inthe Sydney region for the past eighteen years said “It was great to gain some insight into Climate change and how it affects cricket. I will definitely pass this on to my teams. We all always here to support Climate for Cricket.

There was plenty of lively chatter about cricket, climate, curries, naans, biryani and more.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.
