A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will commit $450,000 to support Melbourne in hosting the 38th Australian Sikh Games over the Easter weekend in 2026.

The Australian Sikh Games are the flagship sporting and cultural celebration for the Sikh community in Australia, drawing large crowds from across the country and overseas.

This year marks the 37th edition of the Games, to be held in Sydney from 18 to 20 April, with around 120 clubs from across Australia and more than 10 international clubs expected to participate. Athletes will compete in 15 sports, including traditional Sikh games.

Planning is already underway for the 2026 event in Melbourne, scheduled for 4 to 6 April. Labor’s election commitment will ensure that organisers have the support they need to stage a successful and inclusive event.

As with all government funding, this commitment will be delivered in line with the Commonwealth Grants Rules and Guidelines.

Federal Member for Bruce, Julian Hill MP said, “The Australian Sikh Games are a premier event that unite the Sikh diaspora and wider community in a celebration of sport, culture, and community.

“Hosting the Games in Melbourne will bring significant economic benefits to our region and strengthen the vibrant multicultural tapestry that defines our city.

“I’m proud that a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will back this important event and support the Sikh community.”
