Devotees in Melbourne are gearing up for the Attukal Pongala, a sacred ritual dedicated to Attukal Amma, taking place for the second time in the city. The grand event will be held on Saturday, 8 March 2025, at 10 AM at Sri Durga Temple, Deanside, inviting devotees to offer Pongala and seek blessings.
Attukal Pongala, a revered tradition from Kerala, is a heartfelt tribute to the goddess, with women preparing a special offering of rice and jaggery over open fire. The ritual, deeply rooted in devotion, is known for drawing massive participation, with thousands gathering to take part in a synchronised act of faith.
Organised by KHSM, the Melbourne edition is expected to see an enthusiastic turnout. Registration is open, and those wishing to participate can sign up via TryBooking. The event offers an opportunity for devotees to come together, share in the collective spirit of devotion, and experience a cultural connection to one of Kerala’s most cherished traditions.

Support Independent Community Journalism
Dear Reader,The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.
We operate independently.
