South Australia’s economy has held its place among the nation’s strongest, tying with Queensland for second spot in the latest CommSec State of the States report. Western Australia remains at the top for the second consecutive time.

The ranking follows South Australia’s impressive performance last year when it led the nation for three consecutive reports starting in January. While WA has now taken the lead, SA continues to show resilience across multiple economic indicators.

CommSec assesses eight key factors, with South Australia standing out for its real economic growth, which surged 8.4 percent above the decade average. This places the state ahead of the rest of the country in this category, reflecting steady expansion.

The state also performed strongly in employment and housing. It ranked second for unemployment and dwelling starts, indicating a relatively stable job market and ongoing residential development. Additionally, construction activity remains robust, with work done increasing by 15.4 percent on the decade average—another second-place ranking for SA.

While SA’s overall standing has shifted slightly compared to its previous top-ranking streak, the latest figures highlight continued economic activity and resilience. The report suggests that ongoing investment and workforce stability will be key factors in maintaining this momentum in the months ahead.
