Castle Group has renewed its commitment to HER House, a refuge in Blacktown that offers vital support to women and children escaping family violence. The announcement coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, underlining the urgent need for action on domestic violence.
The funding, provided through Castle Group’s Perera Foundation, will cover operational expenses for the refuge, including rent, utilities, and essential support services. HER House serves as a lifeline for vulnerable families across North West Sydney, offering not only shelter but also hope for a fresh start.
Castle Group’s Founder and Managing Director, Ritchie Perera, emphasised the importance of supporting initiatives that address domestic violence. “We’re very happy to support HER House for another year. Domestic violence is an important issue, and I’ve made sure it continues to be an area of focus for the Perera Foundation,” he said.
The statistics paint a grim picture. Data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare reveals that one woman was killed every 11 days by an intimate partner during 2022–23. Mr Perera highlighted the widespread impact of family violence, saying, “It can affect any family—no matter where they live, their household income, or education. Our ongoing support for HER House reflects our commitment to making a positive and lasting impact in communities.”
Harinder Kaur OAM, CEO and Co-Founder of the Harman Foundation, expressed gratitude for Castle Group’s renewed partnership. “HER House was set up on the belief that every woman deserves a safe place to rebuild her life. Castle Group’s support truly allows us to keep HER House’s doors open for vulnerable women and provide them with the safety, empowerment, and hope they need,” she said.
The Harman Foundation offers a network of free services addressing a range of community needs. For women in need of support, HER House can be reached through external services at 1800 65 64 63.
Castle Group, a residential land developer based in Western Sydney, has a strong history of contributing to community initiatives. Since its founding in 2014, the company has developed projects with an end value exceeding $1 billion, with a pipeline valued at $1.6 billion set for delivery by 2030.
With this renewed commitment, Castle Group continues to play a vital role in addressing family violence and fostering safe spaces for women to rebuild their lives.
