Queensland’s election results have stirred a wave of positive reactions across the state’s Indian community, with leaders sharing high hopes for what Premier-elect David Crisafulli’s leadership will mean for both the multicultural community and broader Queensland. With a focus on safety, economic growth, and inclusivity, Indian community leaders are welcoming the change and looking forward to Crisafulli’s commitment to critical issues such as youth crime, housing affordability, and support for small businesses.

Seema Chauhan, a respected registered migration agent and community advocate, expressed optimism about Queensland’s new leadership. “Queensland has chosen a fresh start, a pivotal decision for our future,” she said. “David Crisafulli is a dynamic leader dedicated to taking decisive action to tackle challenges and unite our communities. I look forward to his and his team’s positive impact on our community and the progress they will accomplish together.”

Seema’s words resonate with many in the Indian community, especially given the promises Crisafulli has made to address core concerns that impact daily lives, from reducing crime to creating economic opportunities.

Subash, President of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) in Cairns, also shared his thoughts on the election’s outcome and the LNP’s promises to the community. “As the President of GOPIO in Cairns, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to David Crisafulli on his successful election victory. His win reflects a shared vision of progress, and we are optimistic that his leadership will bring positive changes that address key issues affecting our community and all Queenslanders,” he said. Subash commended Crisafulli’s commitment to youth crime prevention, cost-of-living relief, and affordable housing solutions—concerns that have long impacted the Cairns region.

“Youth crime remains a critical concern,” Subash continued, “and we appreciate David’s dedication to exploring strategies that will help make our neighbourhoods safer and provide young people with opportunities to lead positive, productive lives. Similarly, with the cost of living on the rise, many families are feeling the strain, and we are hopeful that his government will take concrete steps to alleviate financial pressures on households.”

The focus on empowering small businesses also aligns with GOPIO’s mission to support a thriving economy. “Supporting small businesses has always been a priority for GOPIO, as we believe they are the backbone of a thriving economy. David’s focus on empowering small businesses will help stimulate growth, create jobs, and foster a more prosperous community. Additionally, with the rental crisis and affordable housing needs at an all-time high, we are encouraged to see that his team is committed to creating pathways toward stable and affordable living options for all,” Subash added. He underscored that GOPIO Cairns remains committed to advocating for policies that support the needs of Queensland’s multicultural community and is eager to work with the new government to amplify their voices.

This result speaks to the community’s desire for action against crime, as well as a commitment to protecting the lives and property of all Queenslanders: Biju Akkamparambil, President of the Kerala Association of Townsville

Biju Akkamparambil, President of the Kerala Association of Townsville, extended his own congratulations, with a focus on Crisafulli’s commitment to regional Queensland. “We are pleased to congratulate Mr. David Crisafulli and the LNP team on their significant victory in the Queensland election. This result speaks to the community’s desire for action against crime, as well as a commitment to protecting the lives and property of all Queenslanders,” he said. With Crisafulli’s roots in North Queensland, where he served as MP for Mundingburra, Biju and others are confident that the region will see focused development and increased business opportunities under the new leadership.

“Mr. Crisafulli has assured North Queensland will not be forgotten,” Biju emphasised. “His leadership promises a bright future, especially for Townsville and the broader North Queensland community.” The Kerala Association of Townsville, like many regional organisations, views the LNP victory as an opportunity for areas like Townsville to gain stronger representation and resources to address both economic and social issues.

Dr. Preethi Suraj, President of the Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland (FICQ), shared her hope that the new government will work to build an inclusive environment for Queensland’s multicultural population. “The outcome of this election reflects the evolving priorities and hopes of Queenslanders,” she said. “As President of the FICQ, I am optimistic about the new government’s potential to foster greater inclusion and address the needs of our diverse community. I look forward to seeing policies that support multicultural engagement, economic growth, and better opportunities for migrants.”

In her message to Crisafulli’s team, Dr. Suraj highlighted the importance of listening to every voice and embracing diversity as Queensland’s strength. “My message to the elected government is simple: embrace the diversity that enriches Queensland and ensure every voice is heard. Together, we can create a future where every individual, regardless of background, can thrive and contribute meaningfully to our state.”

For the Indian community in Queensland, the LNP’s victory brings a wave of optimism, with leaders like Seema Chauhan, Subash from GOPIO, Biju Akkamparambil and Dr. Preethi Suraj expressing strong support for the government’s commitment to safety, economic growth, and inclusivity. As the LNP prepares to take office, these leaders and their communities are hopeful that Queensland’s new direction will bring the progress and unity they envision for a brighter future.
