Consul General Neetu Bhagotia, accompanied by CGI officials, the Indian diaspora, and friends of India, paying floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 155th birth anniversary

Mahatma Gandhi’s 155th birth anniversary was marked by a heartfelt tribute at a ceremony in Queensland. Organised by the Consulate General of India in Brisbane, under the leadership of Consul General Neetu Bhagotia, the event gathered members of the Indian diaspora and the local community to celebrate Gandhi’s enduring legacy. The gathering, in partnership with GOPIO Queensland, saw a beautiful homage to the Mahatma through floral tributes, musical performances, and activities aimed at promoting Gandhian values.

The event, held in collaboration with GOPIO Queensland, featured heartfelt songs dedicated to Gandhi ji, the distribution of plant saplings, and a walkathon in support of the Swachchta hi Seva Campaign 2024

A highlight of the day was the Swachchta hi Seva campaign, which encourages cleanliness and community service, a cause deeply rooted in Gandhi’s vision of a self-reliant and clean India. In keeping with this, plant saplings were distributed to participants, symbolising growth and sustainability, values close to Gandhi’s heart.

The event was capped off with a walkathon, a community initiative that resonated with the principles of unity and service. Consul General Bhagotia’s presence underscored the strong cultural ties between India and Queensland, with events like this fostering community engagement and promoting a shared commitment to Gandhian ideals.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
