Calibike, a new player in the electric bike scene, made its official debut on September 14th, 2024, at the Corona City Council Hall. The launch marks an exciting step for sustainable transport in California. Led by Indian-American innovator Rafe Husain, Calibike is shaking up urban mobility with a product that’s set to redefine the way people commute. As California pushes towards a zero-emission future, Calibike is aligning itself with the state’s ambitious environmental goals.

The event drew a notable guest: Mayor Tom Richins of Corona, who expressed his support for Calibike’s mission, emphasising the importance of sustainable solutions in reducing the city’s environmental impact. “Calibike is the kind of forward-thinking initiative we need,” said Richins. “This is about creating a greener future for our community, and I’m thrilled to see Corona at the heart of this movement.”

At the centre of this movement is Rafe Husain, the only Indian-American innovator in the electric bike industry. His leadership at Calibike brings together cutting-edge design and environmental consciousness, pushing the envelope on what electric bikes can achieve. Under his guidance, Calibike has become a trailblazer, combining technology and sustainability in a way that sets a benchmark for the EV bike market.

While electric bikes are at the core of Calibike’s offerings, its impact extends beyond individual commuters. The launch comes as California gears up for Brightline West, the nation’s first high-speed passenger rail system, connecting Las Vegas to Southern California. This eco-friendly rail service will transform travel across the region, and Calibike is poised to be the perfect partner for commuters making the final leg of their journey. Husain noted that his company is well-positioned to complement public transport systems, offering a seamless, green transition for commuters from stations to their final destinations.

“Calibike isn’t just an electric bike—it’s part of a broader shift towards integrated, sustainable transport,” Husain said. His goal is to provide a solution that fits neatly into California’s push for cleaner, more efficient ways to move people around.

Calibike’s battery technology, similar to those found in Tesla vehicles, gives it another edge. As the #1 seller of e-bike batteries in the US, the company is already proving its prowess in a competitive market. With these batteries driving both performance and range, Calibike is offering consumers a practical, reliable, and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional modes of transport.

The company’s commitment to the environment doesn’t stop there. As part of the launch, Calibike donated several electric bikes to the City of Corona, reinforcing its dedication to sustainability. These bikes will be used by the city’s Park Rangers, helping them patrol local parks while minimising their carbon footprint. Mayor Richins lauded this gesture, calling it a “clear demonstration of Calibike’s commitment to Corona’s sustainability efforts.”

With California’s push to reduce emissions and transition to 100% zero-emission vehicle sales by 2035, Calibike is perfectly positioned to contribute to these goals. The state’s tax incentives, including rebates under the California Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP), make electric vehicles more affordable for consumers. Husain and his team are tapping into this momentum, helping push California closer to a future where green transport is the norm, not the exception.

Calibike’s launch reflects a growing awareness of the need for greener commuting options. As urban areas become more congested and environmental concerns rise, solutions like Calibike offer a way forward—where technology meets sustainability for the benefit of both people and the planet.

Rafe Husain’s journey from Lucknow, India, to Corona, California, is as inspiring as the products he’s creating. With multiple patents under his belt and a history of driving innovation, he has taken his experience in engineering and entrepreneurship to build a company that’s making a tangible difference. His vision for Calibike goes beyond just selling electric bikes; it’s about creating a transport system that’s healthier for people and the planet.
