Victorian seniors are set to enjoy eight days of free public transport this October as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival. The initiative, announced by Minister for Ageing Ingrid Stitt and Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams, aims to encourage older Victorians to explore the state, participate in events, and enjoy the many attractions on offer.
From 6 October to 13 October, more than a million Seniors Card holders can travel free on all forms of public transport across metropolitan, regional, and rural areas. This includes trains, trams, buses, and coach services, providing a fantastic opportunity for seniors to make the most of the state-wide festival.
Seniors simply need to carry their Seniors Card, use their myki as usual to touch on and off, and enjoy the ride—without being charged. The Victorian Government, along with Public Transport Victoria and V/Line, is delivering this free travel to coincide with the annual festival, now in its 42nd year.
The festival’s theme, “Explore. Engage. Evolve.”, is an invitation for older Victorians to stay curious and engaged in life. Over 2,000 events have been organised across the state, offering everything from musical theatre at Club Broadway to scenic bike rides through Geelong’s tracks. There are even day trips to places like Maryborough, where seniors can discover the history of the Goldfields region.
The Victorian Seniors Festival offers more than just entertainment—it’s a celebration of older people and their contributions to the community. This October, there’s no better time for seniors to jump on board and explore Victoria for free!

Dear Reader,The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
