Raksha Bandhan, a cherished Hindu festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters, will be observed at the Thebarton Community Centre in Torrensville on Saturday, 24th August 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Organised by the Hindu Organisations, Temples & Associations (HOTA) Forum, this event aims to foster connections among the 99 partner Hindu organisations in South Australia.
Raksha Bandhan involves sisters tying a Rakhi, a symbolic thread, around their brothers’ wrists, signifying their blessing and in return, receiving a token of appreciation. This tradition, rooted in a rich cultural heritage, underlines mutual responsibility and care between siblings.
The upcoming celebration will feature formal Rakhi rituals, cultural performances, and recognition of volunteers and individual achievements. Notable guests include Minister for Multicultural Affairs & Tourism, Hon Zoe Bettison, and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Hon Jing Lee. The evening will be hosted by the well-known media personality, Ms Stacey Lee.
This event offers an opportunity for those interested in Indian traditions, as well as community development practitioners who value South Australia’s multicultural landscape. Entry is by invitation or registration, with media representatives and social media enthusiasts encouraged to express their interest in attending.

Dear Reader,The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
