Aged Care Employee Day is a significant day dedicated to celebrating and recognising the dedication of the countless aged care workers across Australia. These individuals, often unnoticed, provide exceptional care and support to our elderly loved ones, ensuring their wellbeing in residential care, home and community care, retirement living, and seniors housing.

Communities across the nation are showing their appreciation today with morning and afternoon teas, celebrations, and heartfelt messages. “Our sector extends our heartfelt gratitude to all aged care workers for their unwavering dedication, care and commitment,” said Aged & Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA) CEO Tom Symondson. “Aged care workers often go above and beyond to ensure the people they serve receive excellent care. These employees are the unsung heroes of our communities. Their compassionate and tireless work ensures the wellbeing of older people, and their commitment is nothing short of extraordinary.”

Now in its sixth year, Aged Care Employee Day acknowledges over 370,000 aged care workers across the country. Today also marks a special event as ACCPA announces the 15 category winners of the inaugural ACCPA Excellence Awards. “These amazing individuals, teams, and organisations have shown excellence in key aspects of aged care including customer focus and care, innovation, leadership, teamwork, making a difference and volunteering,” added Mr Symondson.

The ACCPA Excellence Awards highlight exceptional contributions in the aged care sector. Among the winners is the Elderbloom Community Care Centre’s Jacaranda and Wanneroo team, recognised for their prompt and efficient evacuation during a bushfire emergency near Perth last year. Curt Schmeissing, an Aged Care Assistant with Country to Coast Home Care Services in Victoria, has been honoured for his companionship and dedication, particularly his commitment to driving an Anglesea lawn bowls champion to his dialysis appointments for three years.

Volunteer Nickolas Makrynakis from Fronditha Care in Victoria is celebrated for using his musical talents to entertain older residents, bringing joy to their lives over the past five years since the loss of his wife. These winners were chosen from 48 finalists, selected from an impressive 460 You are ACE! nominations, reflecting the immense respect and admiration for their contributions.

Join the celebrations and meet these extraordinary individuals at various events across Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney. Residents and carers will be celebrating at Baptcare Brookview residential aged care community in Melbourne, Rockpool Carseldine in Brisbane, and Royal Freemason’s Benevolent Institution in Sydney, providing an opportunity to witness the dedication and vibrant spirit of the aged care sector.

Today, let’s take a moment to appreciate and thank the incredible aged care workers who make a profound difference in the lives of our elderly community members. Their commitment and care are truly remarkable, and their recognition today is well-deserved.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
