Mitch Tambo & Sona Mohapatra to perform live at IFFM Awards

Australian Indigenous singer-songwriter Mitch Tambo and renowned Indian singer Sona Mohapatra will perform live at the 15th annual Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) Awards Night, taking place at the Palais Theatre on 16 August.

This unique performance is produced by celebrated music composer and producer Ram Sampath, whose latest hit ‘Sajni Re’ from the film Laapataa Ladies has topped charts across leading music platforms. The collaboration aims to promote unity through music, bridging cultural and historical gaps between India and Australia.

Sona Mohapatra, who attended IFFM in 2022 and won the Best Documentary Film Award for Shut Up Sona, shared her excitement, “Music is a universal language that transcends borders and cultures. This collaboration celebrates our shared heritage and the power of music to bring people together. I am thrilled to be part of this unique project and to perform live at IFFM 2024.”

Ram Sampath added, “Collaborating with Mitch has resulted in a beautiful performance piece that combines two rich musical heritages. It’s an honor to bring together the sounds of India and Indigenous Australia on such a prestigious platform.”

The IFFM Awards Night is a highlight of the events calendar, featuring India’s brightest luminaries, acclaimed filmmakers, and a dazzling array of celebrities.

Other notable attendees include Afghan pop singer and women’s rights activist Aryana Sayeed, who will premiere her song from the film SETERA at the IFFM Opening Night. Sayeed, who has received numerous accolades, including the Afghan Icon Award and the title “Voice of Afghanistan,” is deeply moved by the film and its message.

Additional prestigious artists at the IFFM Awards Night include include the legendary Ram Charan, along with the illustrious A.R. Rahman, Karan Johar, Kabir Khan, Rajkumar Hirani, Imtiaz Ali, Onir, Rima Das, Malaika Arora, Vikrant Massey, Ram Sampath, Nora Fatehi, IFFM Awards winners and many more.

The 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will be held from 15 August to 25 August.
