The Australian Government proudly has released the Multicultural Framework Review report, marking the first major examination of Australian multiculturalism in a generation.

This comprehensive and independent report, published today, evaluates the state of our multicultural society and provides recommendations to strengthen it for future generations.

Complementing the release of the Review and the Government Response, the Albanese Government has committed over $100 million to bolster a stronger multicultural Australia.

This funding will enhance language services, support community engagement, and improve amenities for multicultural organizations, empowering them to better serve their communities and the broader society.

Australia’s last significant review of multiculturalism occurred over fifty years ago. Since then, it hasevolved into a nation welcoming people from nearly every country on Earth, with more than half of our population born overseas or having at least one parent who was.

A Panel of three eminent Australians—Dr. Bulent Hass Dellal AO, Ms. Nyadol Nyuon OAM, and Ms. Christine Castley—conducted extensive consultations across the country. They engaged with over 1,430 individuals and 750 organisations, including community groups, in more than 200 events.

The review received 796 submissions in various formats, with nearly one-sixth in languages other than English. This innovative approach ensured a broad and inclusive range of voices.

The Multicultural Framework Review is expected to shape the country’s understanding of multiculturalism and influence future policy for years to come.

Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, Andrew Giles, said, “Multiculturalism is one of the great successes of modern Australia, but there is still much work remaining to ensure all communities feel safe and proud of who they are, regardless of their religious, ethnic, or cultural background.

“The Review writes a new chapter in our multicultural story and will inform how we can work together to achieve a vibrant, prosperous multicultural future.

“Our shared values of respect, unity, and compassion will underpin our multicultural nation, and the report reflects how these principles can guide us towards peace and understanding.

“Our diversity is our greatest strength, and this review showcases an Australia that we can build together as one united nation.”
