Philips highlights that no prior experience in election duties is necessary. The only requirements are that applicants must be enrolled to vote and available to work on election day, Saturday, 14 September.
Training will be provided to all recruited staff, ensuring they are well-prepared to handle their responsibilities, which include providing voter assistance, managing the orderly operation of polling places, and sorting and counting ballots. Philips notes, “This is not just about having a job for a day but about joining a vast team dedicated to one of the most significant state events. Many of our staff return for multiple elections, indicating the rewarding nature of the work.”
To facilitate the involvement of all community members, the Electoral Commission specifically encourages applications from individuals who speak languages other than English, persons with disabilities, and First Nations people. This approach not only enriches the team with diverse perspectives but also ensures that assistance is available to all voters, reflecting the community’s variety.
