The Djerring Flemington Hub witnessed a momentous occasion on the 1st of December, 2023. The Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) Victoria, in collaboration with the International Peace Youth Group and International Women’s Peace Group, celebrated their End of Year Celebration of Peace. This year’s event was not just a reflection on the progress made but also a testament to the dedication of HWPL’s partners and community leaders who have committed to fostering peace and harmony in Victoria.
The evening marked a significant milestone with HWPL announcing the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with three eminent organisations, each a beacon of hope and an advocate for peace within the Victorian community.
The Kampuchea Krom Federation (KKF), recognised for its unyielding commitment to the human rights of Khmer Krom, its cultural conservation efforts, and its endeavours in peaceful conflict resolutions, was one of the distinguished signatories. Their steadfast advocacy reflects the spirit of peaceful coexistence that HWPL embodies.
Similarly, Advocacy for Oromia has been instrumental in aiding newcomers to navigate the challenges of settling into a new environment since 2014. Through culturally attuned services, advocacy, and community education, they have not only supported their community but have also embraced the role of peace educators, aligning with HWPL’s vision by completing the HWPL Peace Educator training.
The third signatory, the SUDD Foundation, has been pivotal in creating community-led initiatives aimed at reducing vulnerabilities through education. Their work focuses on forging connections and enhancing integration and acceptance for Australians from South Sudan. This year, their collaboration with HWPL’s Peace Education Sector was particularly impactful, as they delivered core values of peace to Sudanese youth, facilitating workshops that illustrated harmony in diversity and the significance of respecting our differences.
The words of participants from the HWPL Peace Educator training encapsulate the ethos of the evening. One participant shared, “I have learned a lot about how peace can come through this peace class. In particular, I have gained a strong understanding that if we sow the seeds of peace, we can produce many citizens who fight for peace.” Another reflected the principle of non-disturbance, stating, “He who seeks peace does not disturb the peace of another.”
As the year draws to a close, HWPL’s unyielding commitment to the cessation of war and the nurturing of a culture of peace stands stronger than ever. Their peace initiatives extend beyond mere conversations; through international peace conferences, education programs, and cultural exchanges, they demonstrate that a peaceful world is not a distant dream but a tangible reality.
HWPL’s global vision is marked by its non-profit status and driven by the goal of ending war and establishing a culture of peace through collective and sustainable efforts. Their work in engaging communities, shaping young minds, and facilitating cultural dialogue showcases the power of concerted efforts in achieving global harmony.
The signing of the MOUs with the Victorian organisations is not just a ceremonial act but a promise—a promise of continued dedication, collaboration, and education towards a harmonious future, echoing through the corridors of the Djerring Flemington Hub and beyond. As HWPL and its partners enter the new year, their promise to promote the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War stands as a beacon of hope for a world where peace is not just envisioned but actively pursued.
