Maxwell eyes red ball return after “reinvigorating” Lanka experience

After the white ball superstar was brought into the Sri Lanka Test series squad and an injured Travis Head was nearly taken out of the picture, Glenn Maxwell says he has a “reinvigorated desire” to play another Test for Australia. He has his eyes set on a first-class return after seeing that the Big Bash schedule opens up room for many of the white ball superstars to get a go in a few Shield games before the tournament starts.

With an upcoming five Test match series in India, where he has a great record and much experience, Maxwell will be keen to play as much red ball cricket as possible before to hopefully secure a spot in the series Test squad.

This summer, however, Maxwell’s spot looks in doubt as the current squad looks quite secure. But if all goes well with the Sheffield Shield he might be put into the picture a lot earlier for his long awaited Test return.

Maxwell will have to dust the cobwebs, however, seeing as his last first class game was almost three years ago and his last Test being five years ago in Bangladesh. If all goes well for Maxwell, he will be certainly giving the Aussie selectors another choice, adding to the depth of Australian Test cricket.

“It’s been a long time and having that taste of just being in the Test squad was so exciting and reinvigorated and reminded me of where I want to be,” says Maxwell.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution.
