Australia started harvesting Bravo apples in April, and packing didn’t start until May. The harvest is now finished for the 2022 season. Bravo apples are grown all over the Australian continent: in Queensland’s Stanthorpe, New South Wales’ Orange and Batlow, Victoria’s Yarra Valley, South Australia’s Adelaide Hills, and Western Australia’s Manjimup, Donnybrook/Kirup and Perth Hills. This season’s growth conditions vary, according to Fruit West’s Rebecca Blackman. On the east coast, there were some areas with a lot of rain, and there were several days with high temperatures over 40 degrees on the west coast. The harvest of Bravo apples increased by about 30% this year over last year as a result of maturing plants and newly planted trees going online.
In addition to being a popular apple in Australia, Bravo® is also exported to Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Dubai. They are sold in both independent and chain stores nationwide. On July 4th, 2022, Bravo officially debuted its consumer competition. The contest offers a chance to win $100,000 as well as a $200 weekly prise for the length of the contest (13 weeks). Customers can easily get information about how to enter the drawing to win by scanning the QR code on a Bravo Apple. The promotion is valid through October 2, 2022, at 11.59 p.m. Successful apple breeder John Cripps, who developed the Pink Lady apple variety, crossed the well-liked Cripps Red and Royal Gala apple kinds in 1992.
The resulting trees and fruit were grown, tested, and improved over the course of the following 20 years. The cultivar was made available for trials in Australian orchards in 2014, and the first Bravo® apples were sold in Australian stores in 2016. A cult favourite among Australian families and foodies, Bravo is one of the apples with the highest Brix scores and has a delicate yet solid flesh.
