Construction has begun on a new tennis court at Wyndham Vale’s Oaktree Avenue Park as part of an expansive $484,000 upgrade of the park.

The tennis court, which is expected to be open to the public by the end of 2020, is the first stage of the park’s redevelopment, with designs for an upgraded playground featuring new equipment and nature play currently being finalised.

The Wyndham City project will also include redeveloped picnic areas with BBQs, upgraded pathways, furniture and landscaping.

The project is expected to be complete in late 2021.

Wyndham City Director of City Design and Liveability, Ludo Campbell-Reid, said this upgrade was part of Council’s strategy to address ageing infrastructure within a number of reserves across Wyndham as detailed in the Play Space Strategy and Open Space Strategy.

“Once complete, this park will give residents a place to smash it like Roger Federer on the tennis court, a playground for children to get outside and have some fun, and a big open space for families to get together and enjoy a BBQ or picnic,” Mr Campbell-Reid said.

“Council surveyed the community to find out what they liked about Oaktree Avenue Park and how they use the park, then used this feedback to guide its redevelopment.”

“I’d like to thank the residents that took the time to give their valuable input, which will help create a more pleasant and welcoming park for the whole family.”

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.
