With the raging pandemic the world over it wasn’t surprising that the theme for International Yoga day this year was Yoga at Home & Yoga with Family. A great way to get family members to connect, AYUSH Information Cell—Melbourne, Ministry of AYUSH and Indian Consulate of Melbourne & Sydney; Isha Foundation and other community supporters together hosted the 6th International Day of Yoga with this theme on 5 July.

Dr Santosh Yadav inaugurated the event by acknowledging the traditional owners of the land and welcoming attendees from India, Australia and New Zealand. Among the guests of honour were Mr Raj Kumar (Consulate General of India, Melbourne), Mr Ramanand Garge (Consulate General of India, Sydney), Mr Sandeep Singh (Managing Director, Tata Hitachi), Mr Samar Solanki (Bupa Australia & Inspirational Speaker), and Ms Nidhi Jain (Isha Foundation).

Volunteers from Isha Foundation, an international non-profit organisation founded by yogi and best-selling author Sadhguru taught yoga online.

The floor was then thrown open for questions after which an e-booklet for the wider community was shared explaining the key benefits of yoga.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
