Fancy some delicious nosh, lots of foot-stamping klezmer and a healthy dose of Yiddishkeit?

In One Voice, the only Jewish community festival dedicated to expressing the entire spectrum of Jewish life and culture in Melbourne and the largest annual event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere will take over Selwyn St, Elsternwick on Sunday, 15 March from 11am to 5pm.

There will be music, dance, food, an art exhibition, children’s events and activities and a host of community groups showcasing their work, all promising a feast of sound, taste, information, entertainment and experiences.

The sound stage will feature music greats such as klezmer funk sensation YID! (featuring Simon Starr, Adam Starr, Willy Zygier, Alma Zygier and almost 20 other musicians), the much-loved Bashevis Singers (Husky and Evie Gawenda and Gideon Preiss), Israeli songbird Vered Harel, children’s favourite Yoni Giraffe, as well as the ESKE East St Kilda Klezmer ensemble and a range of community choirs and dance groups.

Star foodie, Alice Zaslavsky a.k.a Alice in Frames will host cooking demonstrations in the Nosh tent, with a range of European and middle eastern Jewish recipes featured, while the large food court will feature some of the best Jewish food vendors in Melbourne.

The With One Brush exhibition will showcase the talents of community artists.

There will be plenty of entertainment for children, with a kids’ zone featuring a carnival theme, jumping castles and prizes to be won.

In One Voice is the only community event celebrating the entire spectrum of Jewish life and culture in Melbourne, with a wide range of organisations and many expressions of Jewish life represented. It is truly pluralist in nature, focusing on the cultural aspects of Judaism and the many ways in which the Jewish Community contributes to Australian life. And the non-Jewish community is warmly welcomed. More than 8,000 people attended the event last year.

Entry to the event is free. For further information, go to www.inonevoice.org.au.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
