Who's Who of Adelaide's & Melbourne's Indian Community 2018
Kanwaldeep Singh

Kanwaldeep Singh | Entrepreneur

If you ask Kanwaldeep (KD) Singh his mantra for success he would say it is “Follow your passion and remember there is no such thing as failure”, because he believes it is this philosophy that has seen him grow from bank teller to entrepreneur.

KD Singh, who arrived in Australia in 2008, with his family and three suitcases, is today, the national winner of the Diversified Business Award, and a state winner of the Commercial Finance Broker Award at the 2017 MFAA Excellence Awards, having founded his own company Money Merchants Financial Services in 2010.

Now, the sky’s the limit, says KD Singh, whose company helps migrants with their finances. “Australia is the land of opportunity and security as it embraces multiculturalism without prejudice,” he says.

KD, who now works out of two offices, has remained heavily involved in the migrant community—doing everything from supporting a cricket team to sponsoring festivals. Money Merchants Financial Services also runs free workshops advising new residents on a wide range of topics, including the ins-and-outs of job interviews.

“To succeed as an entrepreneur in Australia, your business needs to be your passion,” he says.

The way I see it…

Growth… It is not what you earn but how much you give back to the community. If my contribution to the community is growing, I believe I am growing.

A book I recommend… The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey

Advice to budding entrepreneurs… Action is a great restorer and builder of confidence. Inaction is not only the result, but the cause, of fear. Perhaps the action you take will be successful; perhaps different action or adjustments will have to follow. But any action is better than no action at all.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
