Ten NSW food and beverage companies are in India for a week-long, NSW Government-led, mission that will provide opportunities to export their world class produce into the thriving market.
Minister for Trade and Industry Niall Blair said the mission will open doors for the participants, giving them a unique chance to obtain valuable information about the Indian market first hand and develop export contacts.
“This trade mission, which was announced by the Premier when she was in India earlier this year, is a great chance for NSW companies to meet potential business partners in India. It’s also a great way for them to build relationships and develop experience in a rapidly changing market, while enhancing their global business profile,” he said.
“NSW has a global reputation for ‘clean and safe’ produce that is in demand from an ever-growing middle class and India offers strong export growth potential for the food and agribusiness sectors,” Mr Blair said.
In 2016-17, NSW exported $760 million worth of agricultural produce to India, an increase of 200%.
Superbee of Forbes has been producing 100 per cent home-grown honey from the farm since 1986 and now exports its range of local honey, gifts and supplements to more than 15 countries worldwide.
Owner Ross Christiansen said he was looking forward to the trip and the opportunities it would present to learn more about the rapidly growing Indian honey market.
“Exports are a fast growing component of Superbee Honey, and I’m looking forward to engaging with in-market buyers to develop yet another export opportunity for our top-quality honey products,” he said.
The mission includes visits to Delhi and Mumbai, including wine masterclasses with Indian sommeliers, site visits to retail outlets, business matching with importers, participation in the Annapoorna World of Food Tradeshow, and a NSW Food & Wine Showcase Dinner curated by MasterChef’s Gary Mehigan, as part of DFAT’s ‘Taste of Australia’ promotion programs.
The NSW Government is covering the costs of the business program to provide support for our exporters looking to enter this market.
