The Tamil Nadu Health Minister’s delegation met recently with Jill Hennessy, Minister for Health in the Victorian Government, for a lunch at Parliament House.

The delegation from the southern state of India met with the Minister and a team from the Alfred Hospital to discuss trauma care in both regions, and further the strong relationship between Tamil Nadu and Victoria’s health systems. They signed a Memorandum of Understanding between National Trauma Research Institute/Alfred Trauma Service and the Government of Tamil Nadu.

The Alfred has existing collaborations with the All India Institute of Medial Sciences (AIIMS) regarding the development of trauma systems. The signing of the Statement of Intent provides the opportunity for the National Trauma Research Institute to capitalise on its expertise and gain further international recognition of its advanced trauma system.

The visit to Melbourne by Minister Baskar provides the opportunity to showcase Victoria’s world-leading strengths in trauma research, in line with the goals of Victoria’s International Health Strategy 2016–2020 and Victoria’s India Strategy: Our Shared Future.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution.
