Event celebrates 100 years of film music

Jashn-E-Bollywood marked the celebration of 100 years of Bollywood music, with Melbourne’s local Bollywood artists getting together at Dream Builders, Hoppers Crossing on Saturday, 26 May to pay tribute to the musical century.

Artist Chondryma partnered with Rajesh Yadav, to bring together the best local talents in Melbourne, and present a spectacular show. They have indeed set the bar high for Bollywood music and events in Melbourne.

The guests of honour for the event were Mr Nitin Gupta (former ministerial advisor), and Mr Yogen Laxman from AIII. Other eminent faces of the Victorian Indian community such as Cranbourne Socialite Mr Aravind Putta; Dr Vikrant Kishore (Deakin University); Sonika Sha, Neha Soudagar, and Parita Vimawala (AIBC); Bhavesh Lakhatariya (Relief Hair Salon); Jai Bharadwaj (SBS Hindi) joined in to support and cheer the local talent.

Sidra Jutt (Mrs Pakistan Australia 2017 and ambassador for Richmond Tigers) was also present at the event, and received a warm applause from the audience, as she had come despite fasting for Ramadan.

Chondryma, a singer and lyricist, has performed in many shows in India and Australia (Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney) over the last 10 years, and this was her first Bollywood event as an organiser. And what a huge success—it was a houseful show. Chondryma’s brilliant rendition of the song ‘Raabta’ was in fact one of the highlights of the evening.

The event brought together some wonderful singers including Bharat Uniyal (from Indian Idol Season 3), Vijay Kumaran, Nandini Chaudhuri, Vinay Kapoor and Kunal Sachdeva, supported by Rhythm Music Group. The show also included sizzling dance performances from Ananda Dance group, Philip and Sakshi.

Ten-year-old Kaavya Kumaran got a standing ovation for her brilliant performance, ‘Tera Mujse hai Pehley Ka’, which overawed the audience.

Curry King Returns, Aroma Magic (Ginny Gulati, Neetu Babani and Shagun Oberoi of Just Cuts) were the sponsors who supported the event. Beauty queens Shaifali and Debasree were the energetic emcees for the evening. The event was beautifully captured by Shamima Kuhu and Writabrata (photography) and Prad VT (video and media coverage).

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
