Religious leaders and volunteers from various faiths will be serving Christmas lunch to more than 60 people from a variety of community-based services at the annual Sunshine Salvos Christmas lunch on 25 December.
More than 20 volunteers from Buddhist, Muslim, Sikh and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints faith communities are going to serve at this traditional Christian celebration. This inter-faith effort continues the tradition of having diverse religious faith-based organisations partnering together to serve the Christmas lunch at The Salvation Army in Sunshine.
Organised in partnership between the Brimbank Maribyrnong Interfaith Network and the Sunshine Salvation Army this event hopes to promote interfaith harmony and understanding.
Thich Phuoc Tan, Abbot of the Quang Minh Buddhist Temple in Braybrook, said that “Christmas creates festive atmosphere but not everyone has the opportunity to feast together with their families. We don’t want anyone to miss out.”
Lieutenant Colin Reynolds, Corps Officer at Sunshine Salvos said, “Many religious leaders talk about faith, peace and harmony during the Christmas season…well this year we are putting those words into action!”
