The growing list of experts who have serious concerns about Daniel Andrews’ dodgy West Gate Tunnel project is cause for concern for the Victorian taxpayer who is footing the bill, says Ryan Smith MP, shadow minister for industry, roads and infrastructure.

Mr Smith believes that the government’s hand-picked experts Mr William McDougal and Mr John Allard have already exposed the flawed traffic modelling that has been used to justify a business case that increasingly appears not to stack up.
“Now, the government’s own water authority has questioned the design of the project, citing impacts on the environment and the potential to cause flooding as a result of the proposed bridge over the Maribyrnong River,” says Mr Smith, adding that these impacts, as well as the effects of multiple pylons planned to be embedded in Moonee Ponds Creek, show that this is a project that has been made up on the run with little thought to the consequences.
Daniel Andrews’ stubbornness over the East West Link cost Victorians $1.2 billion, says Mr Smith, adding that with the government’s own experts now sounding the alarm on these multiple economic and environmental concerns, Victorians can only hope that the same stubbornness will not cost them anymore.
