Melbourne-based Kamini Saberwal was crowned Mrs India Australia 2016 on 25 September, at a pageant that is considered to be among the highest billed in the country.
Kamini is a part-time model who decided to participate in this pageant as she thought it would give her the perfect platform to reach out to many other women like her as well as help her support various Australia charities.
The competition was tough and the 30 participants had to impress the judges with their personality, walk and answers to some very tough questions. The most cherished moment of the night, says Kamini, was when she was crowned the winner by her favourite Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor, chief judge at the event. Karisma was joined by Ms Lebanon Australia Mary Mehajer, Rani Benepal, John Sidoti MP, Blacktown Mayor Stephen Bali and Kim Cancellier on the panel.
As the winner of this competition, Kamini hopes to use the platform to work with different charities and promote the children and women’s causes she believes in. Her message to all married women out would be a quote by Walt Disney that she used in her introduction “All dreams come true if you have courage”.
Kamini is now preparing to take the world by storm at the international pageant in USA.
Support Independent Community Journalism
Dear Reader,The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.
We operate independently.
Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.
When you support The Indian Sun, you support:
• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers
We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.
If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.
Please consider making a contribution today.
Thank you for your support.
